Tinder has turned to artificial intelligence to improve the way users interact with its platform. Match Group, the parent company of Tinder, is hoping that new AI tools will reverse this trend.

Match Group revealed on its most recent earnings call that it has been testing a new feature called Chemistry. This is designed to help users learn more about themselves through interactive questions. Chemistry, with the users’ permission can access photos on their phone’s Camera Roll to better understand personalities and interests. This feature is being tested in New Zealand, Australia and the CEO Spencer Rascoff has said that it will be a key part of Tinder in 2026.
inder’s strategy is similar to recent moves made by other tech companies. Meta, for example, recently introduced a feature which uses AI to analyze photos stored on a phone even if they have not been shared. This allows it to make edits. Both approaches raise privacy concerns, since the benefits for users are unclear.

Match Group claims that AI will be able to recommend better matches based on Chemistry. If a user uploads photos of hiking or climbing activities, for example, the system may suggest matches who share similar interests. Tinder also uses AI to flag potentially inappropriate messages and prompt users with the question “Are You Sure?” Tinder also uses AI for other purposes, including assisting users when selecting photos for their profiles.
Tinder’s fourth-quarter direct revenue is expected to be affected by the new tests in a negative way of $14 million. Analysts projected $884.2 millions, but revised estimates, as well as broader challenges within the dating industry, have reduced expectations to $865-$875 million. Tinder has also added other features in order to boost engagement. There are also new dating modes, options for double dates, and redesigned profile cards with prompts in the photo carousel. Match Group hopes that the AI-powered features and photo carousel will keep users interested in a highly competitive market.
